Floating the Waller

The 2015 Creekshow, presented by the Waller Creek Conservancy, was a two-week public light installation intended to bring awareness to the future transformation of Waller Creek and its surrounding trails and parks. As one of five artists in the show, Ten Eyck Landscape Architects designed an installation inspired by floating the river, the epitome of water recreation in central Texas. The installation, a field of over 200 illuminated inner tubes floating on the water’s ever-changing surface, symbolizes the tension between the city dweller’s desire to interact with the water and the aversion to doing so in this neglected urban waterway. Engaging not only the creek corridor but also the water itself, the installation highlights the need for improving water quality and accessibility in urban waterways.
