"Ten Eyck Landscape Architects (TELA) has spent nearly three decades creating ecologically restorative outdoor spaces that foster community healing. Based in Austin, Texas, with origins in Phoenix, Arizona, founder Christine Ten Eyck, FASLA and her fourteen-person studio take a regional approach to the landscapes of the American Southwest, sparking conversations around pressing ecological issues through people- and place-based design. Drawing from extensive experience and intimate environmental knowledge, TELA transforms overlooked landscape project sites into vibrant environments that stimulate the senses and unify communities, prioritizing native plant species, water harvesting technologies, and durable materials expressed through form, color, and texture. Their approach combines ecological sensitivity with beauty and inclusivity, creating landscapes that are resilient, accessible, and deeply rooted in history and community. "

Austin Green Awards
“We were blown away by this project, setting a very high bar. It did so much with and celebrated the challenges, elevating them to be wonderful, beautiful elements that became the focal points of design. We want to visit this place! It’s such a celebration of what’s possible with smart design – a holistic, resilient approach that respects the site’s ecology without too heavy a hand.”
“Kingsbury Commons is a case study in constrained jubilance – every constraint was seen as opportunity; they didn’t leave anything for granted.”
“This is an excellent project that balances architecture, planning, landscape, community – thoughtfully and precisely, with a light touch on the site, and integrates all the elements that the Austin Green Awards represents.”

Australian Institute of Landscape Architects
Christine E. Ten Eyck, principal and founder of Ten Eyck Landscape Architects, will travel to Brisbane, Australia in August to serve as one of the keynote speakers at the 2011 AILA National Conference. The topic for the event is 'Transform: Climate change challenges, opportunities, & urban design solutions'. Ten Eyck will share the knowledge she has gained during her career thus far creating landscapes that connect the urban dweller with nature. In response to the climate, Ten Eyck's numerous projects in the southern and southwestern United States evolve around the path of sacred water - whether it is rain, air conditioning condensate or gray water. It is Ten Eyck's belief that buildings are our new aquifer and that we should use the water produced by them to create urban habitat for people and wildlife. This philosophy guides Ten Eyck in creating outdoor spaces that are multi-sensory gardens that have purpose along with beauty: air and water purification, urban wildlife habitat creation, climate mitigation, places for social interaction and human healing.
