President

Founding Principal Christine Ten Eyck is a key collaborator in the design and management of all projects, infusing the studio’s broad range of work with a sensitivity to place and passion for human and ecological well-being.

A rafting trip down the Colorado River in Arizona inspired Christine to move from her native Texas to Phoenix, where the environment’s harsh beauty called her to reimagine how landscape architecture might better engage its distinguishing elements to enhance the experience of place. Beginning in 1997, Christine and her studio were among the first to respond to the need for water conservation by integrating water harvesting technologies and xeric planting to create enriching outdoor environments with a contemporary native aesthetic.

Christine’s approach continues to evolve as it engages the unique cultures and ecoregions of the Texas, demonstrating her desire and ability to engage the specific opportunities and constraints of any given location. Drawing upon her intuition, knowledge, and experience, Christine’s designs continue to respond to context, celebrate native ecologies, promote water conservation, and utilize local materials to create enriching, high-performance landscapes that stimulate the senses.

Christine received her Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Texas Tech University. She became a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) in 2003 and is a registered landscape architect in Arizona, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas. She is also an appointed advisor on the State Department’s and U.S. General Services Administration’s National Register of Peer Professionals. Committed to advancing both landscape architectural practice and education, Christine has lectured at various conferences and institutions, including Stanford University, The University of Texas at Austin, The University of Arizona and Arizona State University, the Urban Land Institute’s 2009 A Drier West Conference, and was the keynote speaker for the 2013 Washington State ASLA Conference and the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects in 2011.

Awards recognizing Christine’s contributions to landscape architecture as an advocate for sustainability and landscape authenticity include the United States Senate Congressional Commendation for Historic Preservation, National Trust for Historic Preservation Landscape Architecture Award, Cities Alive Green Roof & Wall Award of Excellence, Arizona Forward Environmental Excellence Awards, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Chief of Engineers Award of Excellence, in addition to numerous national and state chapter awards from the American Society of Landscape Architects. The 2009 ASLA Professional Awards jury described the Arizona State University Biodesign Institute “an authentic example of sustainability. The vernacular planting palette and reuse of water is raised to a more poetic level.”

Christine’s design approach, aesthetic, and innovation in the realm of sustainability have received attention in the published world. Selected books featuring her studio’s work include The Sustainable Sites Handbook (2012),Private Paradise (2011), Tomorrow’s Garden (2011), Design for a Vulnerable Planet (2011), The Desert Home (2002), Healing Gardens (1999), and Designing for the Future (1996). Selected publications include Landscape Architecture Magazine, Martha Stewart Living, Mountain Living, Vogue, Sunset Magazine, Texas Architect, The New York Times, and the Wall Street Journal.

Kelsey JK_Headshot.jpg

Associate & Marketing Coordinator

Kelsey is a landscape architect hailing from Oakland, California. Prior to delving into the world of landscape architecture, she worked as a wildlife biologist in both Davis, California and Livingstone, Zambia. While her species of focus varied drastically between the two regions, her observations were the same; conservation measures for wildlife had a positive influence on people’s mental and physical health. Her experiences taught her firsthand just how mutually beneficial wildlife conservation practices can be for a community space.

Today, her design interests center around the incorporation of wildlife habitat within the urban core to improve human lives and enhance the city experience. Consequently, her work focuses on healing the lost connection between people and nature, demonstrating how we too are part of the ecosystem and the role we play. She strongly believes that city and nature should not be separated but rather woven together, creating a thriving new type of ecosystem.

She holds a BS in Wildlife, Fish, and Conservation Biology from the University of California, Davis and an MLA from The University of Texas at Austin. Outside of work, you can find Kelsey playing soccer or sand volleyball, hiking, photographing natures details, and soaking up quality time with friends and family.

Kara_cropped.jpg

Associate

Kara built her friendship with the natural systems of Central Texas during her childhood spent floating the Comal River, hiking Austin’s Greenbelt, and studying the wildflowers in the open lots of her neighborhood as they returned to prairie. As an adult, she understands how impactful access to these different scales of green space was to her own development and reverence of nature.

While studying human and environmental geography at the University of North Texas, Kara discovered the many services that healthy ecosystems provide their community and environment. She chose to pursue a career in landscape architecture to steward healthy ecosystems and maximize their community impact. At the University of Texas at Austin, Kara explored the landscapes of Central Texas with new eyes, examining inequities of access, environmental degradation, and water quality.

Today, Kara’s design thinking centers around the protection of Central Texas’ ecologies and freshwater systems as well as the provision of the immersive access to healthy nature that she enjoyed as a child. She is a SITES Accredited Professional. Outside of work, you can find Kara exploring Austin’s parks with her pup and enjoying the city’s vibrant food scene with her friends and family.

Mason Brown_Headshot.jpg

Designer & Education Coordinator

Mason's fascination with the natural world began during his childhood, exploring the woods and farmland near Omaha, NE, where he grew up. From camping in Nebraska with his boy scout troop to hiking through the Rocky Mountains on family vacations, he was always keenly observing and questioning the plant and animal life around him. This curiosity deepened during his undergraduate studies in Architecture at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, where he also pursued a minor in Landscape Architecture.

After graduating from UNL, Mason embarked on a 6-week, 9,030-mile road trip across the central Great Plains, assisting with a documentary on regenerative agriculture. This journey ignited his passion for integrating regenerative food systems into landscape design, a focus he continued to explore in his graduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin. There, he earned his Master’s in Landscape Architecture in 2024, receiving the Award of Excellence in General Design from the 2024 ASLA Student Awards and the inaugural Frederick R. Steiner Book Prize for outstanding preparation for professional practice.

When Mason isn’t exploring the outdoors in Austin—whether walking, hiking through Turkey Creek, or taking photos—you might find him cooking at home, working on his book, rock climbing, or traveling.
