Sixth & Blanco
Sixth & Blanco is a mixed-use development that manages to balance the bustle of urban life, an ode to it’s adjacency to downtown Austin, while still adding to the charm of the more quaint Clarksville Neighborhood.
The project is comprised of many programs, including a hotel, retail concepts, residencies, and restaurants. On the first floor, a series of courtyards are woven throughout the site, dotted with water features and seating areas. The planting palette is inspired by Central Texas’ rivers, grottos, and swimming holes, and include Bald Cypress, River Fern, and American Beautyberry.
Due to the overlapping nature of the building, opportunities for planting areas continue throughout the upper five floors in the form of patio gardens that hang over to the spaces below. As the building increases in height and sun exposure, the planting palette gradually becomes more arid, creating a biodiverse exhibition of native Texas plants and it’s various ecologies.
