Hotel Saint Augustine
Located in the hip and eclectic Montrose neighborhood, Hotel Saint Augustine will be a vibrant edition to the Museum District. The two-story hotel will feature an event space, restaurant, and bar along with several courtyard spaces that capitalize on the extensive variety of ecoregions found in the Gulf-Houston region. From Piney Woods to Bayou Wilderness, materials and plant species were chosen to highlight the differences between each ecoregion, while immersing visitors in their tranquility. The John Fairey Garden Conservation Foundation assisted in developing and sourcing an appropriate Houston area plant list. Preservation of the several existing heritage trees on site was a project priority. When necessary, the sites path network switches from decomposed granite to boardwalks, minimizing any impact to the trees critical root zone. All onsite surface drainage is captured and stored in an underground storage tank on site. A series of water features have been strategically placed to mask neighborhood white noise and provide a serene ambiance. Overall, the site was designed to be porous to maximize connections with existing museums, like The Menil Collection, or future district developments. Multiple entrances and low privacy fencing ensures that the hotel remains welcoming and embracing of its surroundings.
