Cypress & Shoal Creek Public Space & Bridge Strategy
The Cypress & Shoal Creek Public Space & Bridge Strategy aims to reanimate an overlooked portion of downtown to support public recreational, retail, and commuting uses. The overall plan, which resulted from an iterative design and community feedback process, proposes a series of public plazas that enhance connectivity, invite moments for engagement with the creek, and create a cohesive sense of place. With walkability at the forefront of the community asks, a focal point of the design strategy looks at the restoration of the trestle bridge and repurposing of the historic rail line as a pedestrian only walkway and viewing deck. A new wider bike and pedestrian bridge will run along side it to separate the everyday commuter from the strolling pedestrian.
