Desert Pearl Inn
TELA completed a master plan for the expansion of the Desert Pearl Inn in Springdale, Utah. A Zion National Park lodging along the Virgin River, nestled within the majestic cliffs of the park. The project includes riverside casitas, orchard bungalows, courtyard lodging, a spa, restaurant, riverside event space, pool, beach, and an outdoor pavilion. These features link to the larger natural area through a trail network that connects across the river and takes visitors directly into Zion National Park. Native plants and local materials draw upon the context and character of the area and seamlessly tie together the old and new parts of the site while respecting the incomparable beauty of the park beyond. Sustainable water management practices were explored with the use of irrigation runnels to feed active orchards throughout the property and create an oasis in the desert. Rain garden arroyos slow down stormwater and allow for infiltration before it reaches the river. An outdoor amphitheater creates a gathering space to take in the views of stunning Watchman Peak. Magnificent cottonwood trees line the Virgin River and the site affords unimpeded views of West Temple, the highest peak in Zion Canyon and arguably the largest Navajo sandstone formation in the world.
