Five Yard House
Our clients renovated a historic bungalow while adding modern additions that created a series of courtyard garden spaces that step up the hill, each with different microclimates. This gave us the opportunity to create five different garden experiences throughout the property. The south facing yard fits into the historic neighborhood with a new walkway and retained garden and reduced new panel of lawn supplemented with native shrubs and grasses. The central courtyard has a brimming blackened stainless steel fountain acting as a shimmering garden mirror. This courtyard is the most forested of the courts with Bigtooth Maples and Live Oak. A new raised pea gravel terrace, fire trough and a built-in wooden banco create two distinct gathering places on various levels in this court. The back courts are comprised of a fig orchard and outdoor shower and to the west is a rock garden and succulents. Water is passively dispersed through recessed planted troughs of Berkley Sedge. The side gardens are comprised of woven mesh fencing covered in fragrant Jasmine and BBQ.
