King William Residence
This historic King William home, originally constructed in wood in 1880 for the editor of San Antonio’s first German newspaper, underwent a rehabilitation, along with a brick addition in the back for the new owners’ daughters. The addition created an inner courtyard that we anchored with an octagonal brimming, central fountain and elevated limestone patios enveloped in lush, tropical plantings, reminiscent of New Orleans. A limestone fireplace, bancos, and plinths for planted urns define smaller gathering spaces, all under the shade of Texas sabal palms, cedar elms, and anacua trees. An antique ornamental wrought iron fence and gates enclose the front garden and hearken back to the site’s history.
