Marfa Ranch
The project’s simple outdoor spaces were inspired by the expansive, severe Chihuahuan Desert grassland and horizon where the ranch is located. Rectangular concrete step stones lead to a sheltered courtyard compound centered on a brimming steel trough surrounded by native mesquite and grasses. Water is passively harvested from the roof through the courtyard and directed out to the revegetated exterior of the house. A new spa is tucked into the new deck that leads to the renovated water tank. The roof top mirador is planted with native grasses and the construction site was restored with indigenous trees, shrubs, grasses, and yucca.
