Santana Ranch
The 300-acre ranch needed disparate structures to be tied together into a cohesive whole and to solve existing drainage issues while also managing vehicular circulation for the large family compound. Collaborating with the Owner, TELA created a masterplan to consolidate vehicles in one auto court by removing one road to free up views to an adjacent ephemeral creek.
Structures were tied together with paths and retaining walls to create more useable level areas for a new pool on the sloping site. The path of rainwater was emphasized with a newly graded arroyo that helps give privacy to the new casita. Vegetable gardens were designed near the kitchen for easy access. Native planting and buffalo grass lawns around the structures provide interest, wildlife habitat and game lawns for the large extended family. Collaborating with the LBJWFC, extensive seeding was done around the site to mend post construction and amplify the splendor of the Hill Country.
