San Antonio Children's Museum
The San Antonio Children’s Museum established a new campus that will better support its vision of being “a premier educational resource, developing innovative thinkers capable of meeting the challenges of the 21st century.”
A canopy-shaded entry plaza welcomes visitors to the 68,000-square-foot Museum, comprised of three, two-story exhibit halls with glass facades that look onto the museum gardens. An iconic red fence, paired with luminous recycled-glass gabion walls and planted berms, secures the garden from the street and encompasses outdoor exhibit spaces programmed to engage children in a variety of ways. Exhibits are designed to encourage fantasy and expression, ignite wonder in nature and scientific exploration, and provide the opportunity for children to practice gross motor skills while playing in the outdoors. Envisioned as a museum set in a park, meandering pathways offer a sense of surprise, bold gardens excite the senses, and shaded seating gathering areas invite families to relax or school groups to gather and learn.
